DEME Group’s multi-purpose, self-propelled jack-up vessel Apollo is getting ready for its naming ceremony, which will be held in Zeebrugge, Belgium, on 21 February.
The event is called Unboxing the Apollo, while the godmother will be Olympic, European and World Champion in heptathlon Nafi Thiam, a spokesperson from DEME Group told Offshore WIND .
According to the vessel’s AIS, Apollo is currently moored in the Port of Vlissingen, the Netherlands, where it was recently outfitted with a helideck.
In Vlissingen, the 87.5m long jack-up is in the company of Sea Installer and Neptune , which were mobilized for their next projects, the spokesperson added. However, further information on the projects has not been disclosed.
To remind, Apollo was constructed by Croatian shipbuilder Uljanik Shipyard and was delivered to GeoSea in August last year. At the end of 2018, GeoSea contracted Alewijnse Marine to provide the electrical installation of a helicopter deck on the vessel.
The vessel has a deadweight of 5,196t and is able to reach a speed of 11.92kn powered by the main engines: 4 x ABC 2,688kW and 2 x ABC 1,512kW. It offers standard accommodation for 90 people, and is intended for various operations such as wind turbine installation, heavy load transportation and assembly, and can also be used as an accommodation platform.
