DEME Group has held the naming ceremony for its new multi-purpose, self-propelled jack-up vessel Apollo in Zeebrugge, Belgium.

At the Unboxing the Apollo event, Olympic, European and World Champion in heptathlon Nafi Thiam officially named the 87.5m long vessel.

Apollo was constructed by Croatian shipbuilder Uljanik Shipyard and was delivered to GeoSea in August last year. At the end of 2018, GeoSea contracted Alewijnse Marine to provide the electrical installation of a helicopter deck on the vessel.

The vessel has a deadweight of 5,196t and is able to reach a speed of 11.92kn powered by the main engines: 4 x ABC 2,688kW and 2 x ABC 1,512kW.

It offers standard accommodation for 90 people, and is intended for various operations such as wind turbine installation, heavy load transportation and assembly, and can also be used as an accommodation platform.
