Two Post-Panamax containerships were damaged in a collision at Busan New Port, South Korea, on March 2, 2019.
Safmarine Nokwanda, a 4,500 TEU vessel owned by A.P Moller-Maersk’s South African unit Safmarine, collided with Tianjin, a 10,070 TEU boxship chartered to Israeli shipping company ZIM, according to data provided by VesselsValue.
As informed, the Hong Kong-flagged Safmarine Nokwanda hit the Liberia-flagged Tianjin while berthing at the container terminal in Busan.
The 116,400 dwt Tianjin suffered damage to the stern. Consequently, some of the containers on board at the stern were crushed and collapsed.
On March 3, the 2010-built Tianjin set sail for Balboa, Panama, the ship’s AIS data shows.
What is more, the bow of the 63,000 dwt Safmarine Nokwanda was damaged in the incident. The damage has been temporarily repaired, with permanent repairs to be carried out.
The 2005-built Safmarine Nokwanda is currently en route to Nantong, China.
There were no injuries reported.
World Maritime News contacted both companies for more details on the matter, however, they are yet to reply.
