Several containers have fallen off a Panama-flagged containership while the vessel was sailing to Wilmington, USA, in late February.
The incident involving the 8,614 TEU Helsinki Bridge occurred during the voyage from the Port of Boston to the Port of Wilmington.
After the boxship encountered rough weather, its container stacks fell over. This caused damage to the contents and it is likely that a number of containers were lost overboard, according to information provided by VesselsValue.
The total number of lost containers as well as details on the cargo the vessel was carrying remain unknown.
The 97,000 dwt containership remains moored in Wilmington where it arrived on March 5.
The 2012-built Helsinki Bridge is operated by Singapore’s Ocean Network Express (ONE). World Maritime News contacted ONE for more details on the incident, however, the company is yet to reply.
Back in December 2017, Helsinki Bridge was involved in another incident in the US. The ship broke free from all mooring lines in Boston, causing damage to the Conley Terminal and Black Falcon Pier. The cost of damages was estimated at more than USD 500,000.
