Dutch shipbuilder and maritime equipment supplier Royal IHC has been awarded a contract for the design and delivery of the complete dredge installations for two new LNG-powered trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) from Van Oord.
Royal IHC said on Tuesday that the two dredge installations were going to be delivered for two 10,500m3 TSHDs being built in Singapore.
Dave Vander Heyde , CEO of IHC, said, “ We are delighted that Van Oord trusts IHC to deliver this crucial dredging equipment for its new vessels. ”
The order includes two suction pipe installations with an integrated submerged dredge pump unit, four additional shore discharge dredge pumps, and six jet pumps in total.
“ This order is a result of intensive collaboration between the project teams of Van Oord and IHC as the design is tailored to the specific requirements of Van Oord, ” the company added.
According to information from Van Oord, both TSHD’s qualify as Tier III vessels (IMO emission standards) and will be fitted with dual fuel engines. The design includes several features that will reduce fuel consumption, and consequently carbon emissions, by a considerable margin.
