Van Oord’s installation vessel Aeolus has completed the installation of 36 out of 44 turbines at the Norther offshore wind project in Belgium.

The vessel began installing the first MHI Vestas 8.4MW turbines at the site some 23km offshore Zeebrugge at the beginning of February.

The 370MW offshore wind farm delivered first power to the Belgian grid at the end of February after the first four turbines were connected to Stevin, Elia’s new high-voltage station.

Aeolus is transporting the units from the pre-assembly site in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, to the project site in sets of four.

Norther is expected to be commissioned this summer when it will become the largest offshore wind farm in Belgian waters. It is also the first Belgian wind farm to feature turbines with 8MW+ individual capacity.
