Malaysia’s Johor Port has signed a marine services agreement with Petronas LNG, a subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Bhd.
The deal would enable the provision of marine services at reduced tariffs to ships that receive gassing up and cooling down (GUCD) services at PLL’s Regasification Terminal Pengerang (RGTP).
The collaborative effort between Johor Port and PLL is expected to encourage more vessel operators and owners to utilize the service at Pengerang terminal, taking advantage of its location and close proximity to shipyards in Malaysia and Singapore.
Johor Port’s relationship with Petronas dates back to 2015 in the material offloading facility project in Teluk Ramunia and Tanjung Setapa. The port is also currently operating and managing the Petronas solid product terminal (SPT) in Pengerang which includes the provision of operating equipment, systems and manpower.
Gassing up and cooling down is an essential process to ensure the safe loading of LNG cargo. Gassing up replaces inert gas in the cargo tanks with warm LNG vapor to remove carbon dioxide, while cooling down brings the storage tank temperature down to -160 degrees Celsius to enable the loading of LNG.
