Offshore engineering and construction specialist McDermott has said been hired by Abu Dhabi’s ADNOC for FEED services on a design-competition basis for phase one of the Umm Shaif Gas Cap Condensate Development Project.
The scope of work, McDermott said on Thursday, also includes the preparation and submission of an EPCI proposal reflecting the design of the offshore facilities developed by McDermott through the awarded FEED work. McDermott has said the contract is a “sizeable” one. McDermott defines a sizeable contract as between USD $1 million and USD $50 million.

Our extensive EPCI experience allows us to deliver technically robust engineering design to clients as a ‘one-stop-shop’ on a global scale.”
The FEED project is scheduled to be executed from McDermott’s London office with support from its Dubai and Chennai locations. Work on the project will begin immediately and the contract award was reflected in McDermott’s first quarter 2019 backlog, McDermott said.
The Umm Shaif Gas Cap Condensate Development Project will be conducted on the Umm Shaif and Nasr offshore concession which has a target production of 460,000 barrels of oil per day.
Umm Shaif was Abu Dhabi’s first offshore oil discovery in 1958. It is located 150 kilometers northwest of Abu Dhabi city, in water depths of less than 20 meters.
Oil from Umm Shaif is transported by pipeline to the processing and export terminal on Das Island, about 30 kilometers west of Umm Shaif. Nasr was discovered in 1971 but not brought onstream until 2014.
The Umm Shaif and Nasr concession has been created from the former ADMA offshore concession which was further separated into the Lower Zakum, SARB, and Umm Lulu concession areas with the aim of maximizing commercial value.
