DEME Offshore has been awarded a contract for the transport and installation of 165 foundations at Ørsted’s Hornsea Two offshore wind farm in the UK.

In addition, DEME Offshore secured the contract for the transport and installation of the turbines at the wind farm.

The 1.4 GW Hornsea Two offshore wind farm is located approximately 89 km off the Yorkshire coast and will meet the electricity needs of over 1.3 million homes per year.

DEME Offshore will transport and install the 165 monopile foundations and carry out scour protection.

The monopiles and transition pieces will be installed by the company’s DP3 offshore installation vessel ‘Orion’, entering the fleet by the end of the year.

DEME Offshore will also provide installation vessel capacity to transport and install 165 Siemens Gamesa 8.4 MW turbines at the wind farm. Turbine installation will be carried out with offshore installation vessels ‘Sea Challenger’ and ‘Sea Installer’. Installation should be completed in early 2022.

The total contract value is approximately over EUR 200 million.

Bart De Poorter , general manager DEME Offshore said: “We are delighted with this major contract award from Ørsted, which once again highlights our vast track record and technical expertise in providing innovative solutions for the offshore wind industry. We look forward to working with Ørsted and to leverage our joint expertise to successfully and safely deliver this major project.”
