Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company’s (GLDD) newest clamshell dredger – under the name No. 58 – has officially started dredging operations, the Oak Brook, Illinois, headquartered dredging company said in its latest announcement.

On May 8th, Dredge Captain Phil Sanzone and Dredge Technical Manager Doug Wittwer successfully completed the commissioning of No. 58, in which it started dredging operations in Charleston, SC.

Capt. Sanzone and Chief Wittwer provided the leadership and effort required to work through numerous design, installation, crew training, and qualification tasks to launch what is now the largest clamshell dredge in Great Lakes’ fleet.

“This would also not be possible without the support from, among many others, our fleet maintenance, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and purchasing departments,” said GLDD in its release.
