Jumbo has secured a contract for the transportation and installation of turbine foundations at the Yunlin offshore wind project in Taiwan.
Preparation and planning works have already begun, with the first transportation commencing in the fourth quarter of the year and installation in mid-2020.
Jumbo is responsible for transporting 40 monopiles and 120 monopile sections from Germany, as well as 40 transition pieces from the Netherlands, and is in charge of installing 80 transition pieces and the grouting work.
The company’s K-class and J-class vessels, and other third-party HLVs and deck carriers, will be used for shipping the monopiles, sections and TPs. The J-class vessels with DP2 capabilities will also be used for TP installation.
“The Yunlin project is the largest single contract we have been awarded in our 50-year history, and it is particularly special as it allows us to combine the strengths of both our Shipping and Offshore divisions,” said Michael Kahn , Managing Director at Jumbo.
“Our specialised teams, together with our partners, will provide a unique integrated T&I solution – from quayside to seabed – for Yunneng.”
Yunlin is 73% owned by wpd and 27% owned by a Sojitz Corp-led consortium which includes Chugoku Electric Power, Chudenko Corporation, Shikoku Electric Power, and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation.
The 640MW offshore wind farm will consist of 80 Siemens Gamesa 8.0-167 DD turbines located 8km off the Taiwanese west coast. Project completion is scheduled in December 2021.
