Shell has hired a Dolphin Drilling semi-submersible drilling rig for work on the Knarr field in Norway.
The drilling contractor said Monday that the oil company would charter the Borgland Dolphin drilling rig, starting between February and May 2020.
The contract includes drilling of one well at the Knarr field and two one well options. The fixed contract value is $15 million including mobilization cost.
“This contract reintroduces Dolphin Drilling and Borgland Dolphin to drilling services in Norway,” Dolphin Drilling said.
Knarr is a field in the northern part of the North Sea, 50 kilometers northeast of the Snorre field. The water depth is 400 meters. It started producing oil in 2015 under the operatorship of BG, which was subsequently bought by Shell.
Borgland Dolphin is currently undergoing preparation for contract start-up with i3 Energy in the UK North Sea. The contract with i3 Energy is expected to start between July and August 2019.
