Dutch dredging specialist Van Oord together with LNG engineer TechnipFMC has been awarded a contract by Anadarko for EPCI work on the subsea systems for the Area 1 Mozambique LNG project.
Van Oord said on Wednesday that it would execute the shallow offshore installation scope of the EPCI deal while TechnipFMC was responsible for the deepwater scope.
The Anadarko-led Area 1 Mozambique LNG project will be Mozambique’s first onshore LNG development, initially consisting of two LNG trains with a total nameplate capacity of 12.88 Mtpa to support the development of the Golfinho/Atum fields located entirely within Offshore Area 1.
According to the company, the upcoming months will be dedicated to project preparation. Execution of the work will start in 2021.
It is also worth noting that the total contract value for the consortium TechnipFMC and Van Oord is over $1 billion.
TechnipFMC stated in a separate statement that its work scope would be executed through its wholly-owned UAE incorporated subsidiary, Van Oord Gulf FZE, in cooperation with subcontractor Allseas.
Also, TechnipFMC was awarded separate contracts to provide subsea hardware in support of well construction.
As a result of these awards, TechnipFMC and Allseas entered into a strategic collaboration agreement aimed at jointly pursuing specific deepwater projects where the assets, products, and capabilities of both companies are complementary like Golfinho.
In support of these awards, TechnipFMC opened a new office in Maputo, Mozambique, in February 2019.
This follows Anadarko reaching the final investment decision on Area 1 Mozambique LNG project on June 18. On the same day, Oceaneering won a deal with Anadarko for the provision of umbilicals, distribution hardware, and aftermarket services to the project.
