PTTEP, the exploration and production unit of Thai state-owned PTT, has made a gas discovery offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.

PTTEP said that its unit, PTTEP HK Offshore, made a discovery of gas at the first well on the Sarawak SK410B project, designated Lang Lebah-1RDR2.

The drilling of the well, which began in March 2019, targeted non-associated gas in the primary target of the Middle Miocene cycle IV/V carbonate reservoir. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,810 meters.

The well encountered 252 meters of net gas pay, indicating a multi-tcf gas discovery. It was tested in carbonate main target reservoir with a completion-constrained rate of 41.3 mmscfd and 246 barrel of condensate per day.

According to PTTEP, the drilling result of the Lang Lebah-1RDR2 is historically the company’s largest discovery. The discovery will require further drilling to confirm the upside potential.

Sarawak SK410B Project is located in the shallow waters, approximately 90 kilometers offshore Sarawak, with the acreages of approximately 1,870 square kilometers.

The project is operated by PTTEP with a 42.5 percent working interest. KUFPEC and Petronas Carigali are partners in the project with 42.5 and 15 percent interest respectively.
