Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor has awarded its compatriot engineering company Apply a contract to establish / update system descriptions and associated system drawings for the Njord field, which is located in the Norwegian Sea.
The Njord field, located 30 kilometers west of the Draugen field, was developed using a floating steel platform, Njord A, and a storage vessel, Njord B.
The field was in production from 1997 until 2016 when it was temporarily shut down due to structural integrity issues on Njord A. To extend the lifetime of the fields, the platform and the storage vessel were brought to shore for an extensive upgrade in preparation for future decades of production.
As part of the upgrade, the Njord A platform will also be prepared to bring the nearby Bauge and Fenja fields on stream. The work will make the field ready to produce until 2040.
Apply said on Tuesday that, following the contract award from Equinor, the company will start the work immediately and complete it in the first quarter of 2020.
The assignment will involve 10 – 15 people within the area of Competence & Training, and it will be carried out at Apply’s head office in Forus, Norway.
Apply has in recent years prepared similar documentation for Gina Krog, Aasta Hansteen, and most recently for the Johan Sverdrup field.
In related news, Apply has also recently won a contract for upgrading the Intervention and Completion unit’s (ICU) circulation and material handling system on Equinor’s Mariner A platform in the UK.
