Subsea services company DeepOcean has been awarded a contract by Equinor for marine operations during installation of the Vigdis boosting station offshore Norway.
Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has recently approved Equinor’s Vigdis boosting station project located in the North Sea. Expected start-up of the project is in the first quarter of 2021.
DeepOcean said on Friday that its contract award covers project management, engineering, and offshore installation activities. The offshore work includes marine operations for rock removal, installation and tie-in of subsea lines and installation of subsea structures at the Vigdis and Snorre offshore fields. Various options for the Vigdis campaigns are also included.
The companty said that the onshore project team will work out of its offices in Haugesund, with offshore execution scheduled for 2020.
DeepOcean’s Commercial Director for Subsea Services, Rolf Ivar Sørdal , said: “The project fits very well with our capabilities and construction vessel fleet, and we are pleased that Equinor again has trusted us with this exciting award.”
The Vigdis field has been developed with seven subsea templates and produces oil and gas, which is then sent to the Snorre field for further export. It came on stream in 1997.
Back in December 2018, Equinor decided to boost production at the Vigdis field by almost 11 million barrels. The new project involves installing a pump on the seabed that helps increase recovery and accelerate production from the field.
