A passenger of a roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel died after being medevaced off Cebu, Philippines, on July 10.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the man aboard the M/V St Francis Xavier was suffering from severe asthma and required immediate medical attention.

After being informed by the ship’s captain, the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Danao coordinated to CG Medical Central Visayas and proceeded to the area.

The team boarded the 1991-built vessel and found the 69-year-old man, identified as Recafort Cipriano, unconscious and being revived by the ship’s medical doctor.

The team immediately transferred the passenger to a boat bound for Danao Port, transporting him to the City Province Hospital of Danao for medical attention.

The 11,191 GT Francis Xavier departed Cebu City at around 11:40 a.m. (local time) on July 10 and was bound for Manila when Cipriano had the asthma attack.

Cipriano was declared dead after reaching the hospital, the PCG further said.
