Prysmian Group will provide ”Made in France” cable technologies for the first large-scale French offshore wind farm.

Prysmian did not name the project, but rather said that the wind farm is being developed by the French company EDF Renewables and Canada’s Enbridge.

The project in question is most likely the 480MW Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm which was officially launched in Saint-Nazaire last month.

Prysmian will manufacture the cable technology for the wind farm at its centres of excellence in Montereau and Gron.

The Saint-Nazaire wind farm will feature 80 Haliade 150-6MW wind turbines manufactured in France and installed some 12 kilometres offshore the Loire-Atlantique. The commissioning of the wind farm is planned for 2022.

EDF Renewables and Canada’s Enbridge are developing the project through the company Eolien Maritime France (EMF). EMF also won the competitive bidding for the Courseulles-sur-Mer and Fécamp offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of almost 1GW.

Back in April 2018, EMF awarded Prysmian with a contract to provide inter-array cables for all three projects. Prysmian will work with Louis Dreyfus TravOcean on the Saint-Nazaire wind farm.
