Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) today announced a contract award by the Ministry of Works of Bahrain in relation to the North Manama Causeway.

The contract carries a value of approximately EUR 70 million.

The causeway forms part of the Ministry of Works strategic plan to improve the existing road network by developing new road corridors to support the rapidly expanding economy of the country.

As part of this program, Boskalis will reclaim an area of approximately 130 hectares with an estimated volume of six million cubic meters of sand.

For the project, the company is planning to use two medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredgers.

Furthermore the construction includes rock revetment work for edge protection.

As Boskalis reported, the works are due to begin in the third quarter of 2019 and are expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2020.
