Canada’s National Energy Board (NEB) informed that the Coastal GasLink pipeline project that will deliver natural gas to LNG Canada project near Kitimat, does not fall under its jurisdiction.
NEB said in its statement that the project does not form a part of NOVA Gas Transmission system nor is it vital or integral to the NGTL, or any other federally regulated pipeline.
Following a number of hearings held by the NEB, and based on the evidence presented, it found that the Coastal GasLink pipeline project is properly regulated by the province of British Columbia.
Coastal GasLink is a 670-kilometer (420 miles) pipeline designed to transport natural gas from the Montney gas-producing region near Dawson Creek, B.C. to the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat.
The pipeline will have an initial capacity of approximately 2.1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/day) with the potential for expansion of up to approximately 5 Bcf/day.
The estimated $4.8 billion project is underpinned by 25-year transportation service agreements entered into with the LNG Canada participants.
