Japan’s Inpex said its Ichthys liquefied natural gas project in Australia is currently running at 80 percent production capacity.
Speaking at an earnings news conference, Inpex’s senior managing executive officer Masahiro Murayama , said the facility is running at the 80 percent production capacity shipping 24 cargoes in the second quarter of the year, Reuters reports.
He also noted the facility has undergone maintenance in May lasting around 15 to 20 days.
In its results presentation, Inpex added that 67 LNG cargoes have been shipped from the Ichthys plant to date including July cargoes. By the end of June, the facility had shipped 55 LNG cargoes.
Murayama added that up to 8 LNG cargoes per month are expected to depart the Ichthys LNG project during the remainder of 2019.
Once in full production, the Ichthys project will be able to produce about 8.9 million tons of LNG per year from its two liquefaction trains.
At peak production, the facility is expected to be able to produce about 10 cargoes per month or about 120 cargoes per year.
About 70 percent of the LNG produced by the export project will be supplied to Japanese customers.
The project is a joint venture between Inpex, major partner Total, Taiwan’s CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.
