Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) jumped 48.9 percent in June when compared to the corresponding month last year, according to the monthly data by the LNG terminal operator Enagás.
LNG imports reached some 20.7 terawatt-hours (TWh) in June 2019 as compared to 13.9 TWh in June 2018.
Total natural gas imports, including piped supplies, edged up 0.6 percent to 32.2 TWh. Pipeline supplies from Algeria dropped 49.7 percent to 8 TWh, as compared to 15.9 TWh the previous year.
Top LNG supplier to Spain during the month of June 2019 was Qatar with 5.9 TWh, followed by the United States (5.3 TWh).
Spain imported 2.9 TWh of LNG from Nigeria, 2.6 TWh of LNG from Trinidad & Tobago, and 2.1 TWh from Russia, with Norway supplying 1.9 TWh of LNG.
The Bilbao regasification plant received seven LNG shipments out of the total 23 cargoes imported into Spain during the month under review.
Barcelona facility received six LNG cargoes while three cargoes landed at Huelva and Mugardos each, and two cargoes landing at Cartagena and Sagunto each.
Two reload operations have been completed during June 2019, one at Barcelona and the other at the Mugardos LNG facility.
