Australian energy giant Woodside has revealed it will produce first oil from its Greater Enfield project located offshore Australia this month.
According to Woodside’s half-year financial report on Thursday, the company expects first oil from the Greater Enfield reservoirs in August 2019, on schedule and on budget.
The energy giant previously stated that Greater Enfield was supposed to start-up in mid-2019 .
Located 60 km off Exmouth in Western Australia within Commonwealth waters, the Greater Enfield project will develop the Laverda Canyon, Norton over Laverda (WA-59-L), and Cimatti (WA-28-L) oil accumulations.
The project was approved for development in June 2016. The reserves will be produced via a 31-kilometer subsea tie-back to the Ngujima-Yin FPSO, which previously operated on the Vincent oil field off Australia.
The vessel was sent to Keppel’s shipyard in Singapore where it was modified and upgraded in preparation for the Greater Enfield project. The shipyard’s job scope included marine and hull life extension and refurbishment works; installation of new customized water flood module, turret risers, and power and control module; as well as modification of swivel system, marine, and topside related piping.
The Ngujima-Yin FPSO returned to waters off the North West Cape on May 5, 2019. Production from the existing Vincent wells re-started on July 4, 2019.
Woodside CEO, Peter Coleman , said: “Subsequent to the end of the period, we recommenced production from the Vincent wells and we expect first oil from the Greater Enfield reservoirs in August 2019.”
The drilling campaign for the Greater Enfield is also ahead of schedule with 11 of the 12 development wells currently complete. Greater Enfield’s expected oil production is around 40,000 barrels per day.
It is also worth mentioning that Woodside’s 1H 2019 performance was affected by several factors, including cyclone Veronica, the refurbishment of FPSO Ngujima-Yin, and Pluto LNG maintenance.
