Japanese shipowner NYK and a subsidiary of French oil major Total have signed another long-term charter contract for a newly-built LNG carrier.
Under the contract, Total Gas & Power Chartering Limited (TGPCL) will charter an LNG carrier that is scheduled to be delivered by South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries in 2021.
The LNG carrier will be equipped with a WinGD-made dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine and a re-liquefaction system that can use surplus boil-off gas effectively.
The 174,000 cbm newbuild will measure 293 meters length and 45.8 meters in width, according to NYK.
In September and December 2018 , NYK and Total entered into long-term time-charter contracts for a total of three LNG carriers. The latest contract brings the number of units to be chartered to four.
All four vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2021.
NYK noted it was looking to secure stable freight rates through long-term contracts through its medium-term management plan dubbed “Staying Ahead 2022 with Digitalization and Green.”
