InterMoor has recently completed the installation of OPT’s PB3 PowerBuoy in the Huntington field for Premier Oil.

InterMoor’s scope as main installation contractor included: Optimisation of the mooring system for North Sea deployment; Supply and install of the hybrid three point mooring system; Execution of the offshore mooring deployment; Hook up of the buoy.

Completion of the offshore campaign in August this year marks the culmination of over a year of engineering work with Ocean Power Technologies (OPT), Acteon sister company Pulse Monitoring and Premier’s project team.

The project is partly funded by the OGTC and is the first of its kind for the UKCS. Utilising its expertise in mooring system engineering & design and experience gained in offshore projects, InterMoor installed the moorings and deployed the 13-meters long, 11mT buoy from the OCV Island Valiant.

The PB3 is now generating power and operating as an intelligent autonomous platform to provide communications and remote monitoring services at Premier’s Huntington field in the central North Sea, for a trial period of up to 9 months.
