Russia’s oil and gas company, Rosneft and its Sakhalin-1 partners have decided to go ahead with their Far East LNG project.
Speaking at an industry conference in Vladivostok, Rosneft’s chief executive officer Igor Sechin said the partners have made a decision to build their own LNG plant in De-Kastri with a capacity of 6.2 million tonnes.
“Its products will be much in demand in Japan due to the geographical proximity of the two countries,” Sechin said.
Rosneft is already partnering with a Japanese consortium Sodeco on its Sakhalin-1 project.
The accumulated output at the project has already reached 114 million tonnes, and 26 billion cubic meters of gas has been delivered to the consumers.
The LNG facility would use the Sakhalin-1 natural gas resources as feed gas.
Previously, the resources were considered as potential feed gas for Gazprom’s Sakhalin-2 LNG facility’ third liquefaction train, however, no agreement has yet been reached.
Partners in the Sakhalin-1 project, besides Rosneft and Sodeco, are ExxonMobil and India’s ONGC Videsh.
