Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) jumped 86.4 percent in August when compared to the corresponding month last year, according to the monthly data by the LNG terminal operator Enagás.
LNG imports reached some 26.1 terawatt-hours (TWh) in August 2019 as compared to 14 TWh in August 2018.
Total natural gas imports, including piped supplies, edged up 25.9 percent cent to 38.1 TWh. Pipeline supplies from Algeria dropped 46.4 percent to 7.4 TWh, as compared to 13.8 TWh the previous year.
The top liquefied natural gas supplier was Qatar with 7.3 TWh delivered in August, followed by Russia (5.4 TWh) and Nigeria (4.9 TWh).
The remaining volumes were imported from Trinidad & Tobago (2.6 TWh), Belgium (2.1 TWh), Angola (1 TWh), Algeria (0.995 TWh), the United States (0.979 TWh and Norway (0.869 TWh).
The Bilbao regasification plant received seven LNG cargoes out of the total 26 imported into Spain during the month under review.
Barcelona facility received six LNG cargoes with five cargoes landing at the Sagunto facility. LNG import terminal at Huelva received 4 cargoes with 3 delivered to Cartagena and 1 to the Mugardos plant, the data shows.
The only reload operation in August 2019 has been completed at the Huelva facility.
