Golfinho is a deepwater discovery which will be developed as a subsea system tied back to an onshore LNG facility.

Benthic said that it would, for the first time in its history, utilize two portable remotely operated drill (PROD) units to perform fieldwork scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2019.

The PROD unit with tracks will be used in the shallow-water geotechnical locations from Solstad’s Nor Captain anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel, while the other unit will be used in deepwater geotechnical locations from the MMA Valour multipurpose PSV.

The two units will collect numerous geotechnical borehole samples and conduct in-situ piezocone penetration tests at various locations across the development.

The company added that it would also manage the shallow and deepwater geophysical surveys, also scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2019.

To remind, U.S. oil company Anadarko awarded several contracts for its Mozambique Golfinho/Atum development back in June. Anadarko’s operating interest in the Mozambique LNG project was bought by Total on Monday , among other African assets.

The Mozambique LNG project will be Mozambique’s first onshore LNG development, initially consisting of two LNG trains with a total nameplate capacity of 12.88 Mtpa to support the development of the two fields located entirely within Offshore Area 1. The project, estimated at $20 billion, was also sanctioned in June .

Van Oord in consortium with TechnipFMC was awarded an EPCI contract for the offshore subsea system. Van Oord will execute the shallow offshore installation scope while its consortium partner TechnipFMC is responsible for the deepwater scope. The total contract value for the consortium is over $1 billion.
