Leidos Australia plans to deliver the first Survey Craft System to the Royal Australian Navy in November 2019.
A key component of the Australian Navy SEA1770 project, the Survey Craft, will provide underwater hydrographic survey data to the Navy to assist with the safe deployment and maneuver of naval vessels in remote or unknown maritime environments.
The 9.5 meter vessel, built by Australian company Yamba Welding and Engineering, will complement the Fly Away Survey Kit, already being exercised by Navy.
As the Prime Systems Integrator, Leidos designed the Survey Craft System to undertake Rapid Environmental Assessments.
“ This is a significant milestone for the project, ” said Leidos Australia chief executive Christine Zeitz . “The team has worked closely with Defence to ensure we are implementing the right capability to meet their current and future needs.”
The SEA1770 project will deliver deployable materiel elements of the Rapid Environmental Assessment capability in order to enhance the direction, collection, processing and dissemination of tactical maritime environmental information.
Leidos and Navy undertook training on the vessel prior to the Pacific 2019 exhibition and Leidos will complete any final refinements to the craft, before handing over to Navy.
