Akrocean has secured a contract by Meteo-France to supply floating LiDARs for future offshore wind projects in France.
Under the four-year master service agreement, Akrocean will provide wind and ocean data using its WINDSEA floating LiDAR with an aim to de-risk future projects in French waters.
Established as part of series of measures intended to facilitate the deployment of offshore wind power in France, the derisking of offshore wind projects aims to implement technical and environmental studies carried out by the General Directorate for Energy Climate (DGEC, Ministry of Ecology).
The studies, as well as the results of public debates on each area suitable for offshore wind, will be brought to the attention of candidates for future calls for tenders at the end of the process of competitive dialogue between candidates and the Commission of Energy Regulation (CRE), Akocean said.
The platforms will be equipped with other atmospheric and oceanic sensors to also cover the needs of the French Navy’s Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department (SHOM) and the French Agency for Ecological Transition and Regional Cohesion (CEREMA).
“This is a contract to carry out all of the measurement campaigns in the French waters over the next four years,” said Maxime BELLORGE , Sales & Projects Director at Akrocean.

According to Akrocean, the coupling of in-situ data certified Carbon Trust stage 2 with the model simulations will increase the accuracy of field studies and improve the technical and economic sizing of future offshore wind farms.
