The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has authorized Annova LNG to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) to nations where the United States does not have a free trade agreement (FTA).
The permit positions Annova LNG to help coal-reliant nations diversify their energy supply with U.S. produced natural gas, Annova LNG said in its statement.
The 20-year authorization does not include countries with which trade is prohibited by U.S. law or policy.
“This authorization from the DOE allows us to reach more customers worldwide and is another milestone accomplished as we make progress towards a final investment decision,” said Omar Khayum , CEO, Annova LNG.
DOE authorized the export of approximately 360 billion cubic feet per year (Bcf/yr.), which corresponds to 6.95 mtpa, the optimal production capacity of the facility.
Annova LNG plans to start operations of the facility at 6.5 mtpa and increase output as operating conditions and commercial demands allow.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the construction of the facility on November 22, 2019.
