Two manifolds ready for Wintershall Dea’s Nova field

Oil and gas company Wintershall Dea has marked another milestone in the development of its operated Nova field located offshore Norway.

The Nova field is being developed as a subsea tieback connecting two templates to the existing Gjøa platform, which is operated by Neptune Energy. Gjøa will process the production fluids and provide water injection and gas lift to the Nova field.

In an update on its social media channels on Thursday, Wintershall Dea said that Aker Solutions had completed two manifolds for the Nova field and handed them over to Subsea 7.

Subsea 7 will be in charge of the installation of these manifolds on the seabed of the Nova field.

According to Wintershall Dea, the manifolds will be installed in the coming months.

Wintershall Dea holds a 45% share in the Nova project. Other project partners are Capricorn Norge (a subsidiary of Cairn Energy) (20%), Spirit Energy Norge (20%), and Edison Norge (15%).

The Nova field is located in the Norwegian North Sea, 120km northwest of Bergen. The expected recoverable reserves from the field are around 80 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe), of which the majority will be oil. The Nova field is expected to come on stream in 2021.

When it comes to the project’s previous milestones, Wintershall Dea in May 2019 installed two subsea templates on the ocean floor in Norway, marking a major milestone for the Nova project.

In August 2019, Wintershall Dea completed the installation of the subsea pipelines and umbilicals for the Nova project. Subsea 7 spearheaded the subsea work and installed the templates on the Nova field before laying 65 kilometers of pipelines using the Seven Oceans vessel, and 20 kilometers of control umbilicals using the Skandi Acergy vessel.
