A Greece-flagged crude oil carrier was towed to safety after sustaining mechanical problems on the Bosphorus on April 12.
The 274-meter long Militos was sailing in the vicinity of Beşiktas when it suffered machine malfunction, the Turkish Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM) said.

The 164,800 dwt ship was immediately secured and pulled to a safe area with the help of KEGM tugs. Following the rescue operation, it was anchored off the Yeşilköy coast, according to local news agency Deniz Haber.
“All necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of navigation, life and property as well as to protect the marine environment in the Bosphorus strait,” KEGM added.

The Suezmax tanker arrived in Turkish waters after transiting the Suez Canal earlier this month. At the time of the incident, the vessel was not carrying any cargo.
The 173,672 cbm Militos is owned by Greek company Andriaki Shipping, VesselsValue’s data shows.
