Siemens Gamesa has signed a contract with Sif for marshalling activities at Sif’s site in the Port of Rotterdam. The site will be used to support wind turbine installation at the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm.

The contract, under which Siemens Gamesa’s wind turbines for Hollandse Kust Zuid will arrive and be handled at the Maasvlakte site, will be in effect from 2021 until 2023.

The wind turbine supplier is now the second customer to call dibs on a 20-hectare part of Sif’s 65-hectare area in the port, which the Dutch foundation producer’s leased specifically for marshalling activities from the Port of Rotterdam Authority in August 2019.

The site is adjacent to Sif’s 45-hectare main site, where the company is assembling, coating, and storing its offshore wind foundations.

The first to use the marshalling site is DEME, which signed a contract with Sif the same month the company leased the additional land. DEME is using the land for its installation operations at the Borssele 1+2 offshore wind farm, and contracts additional services such as logistics and crane works to Sif.

The marshalling activities supporting Borssele 1+2 construction will run until 2021, just in time for Siemens Gamesa’s agreement to start.

Vattenfall selected Siemens Gamesa’s 11 MW turbines for all four of its offshore wind farms at the Hollandse Kust Zuid zone in November 2019.

The 1.5 GW development will feature 140 wind turbines, which will be installed by Swire Blue Ocean’s vessel Pacific Osprey.

Based on the current schedule, all Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farms will be up and running at the end of 2022 or early in 2023.
