Offshore Heavy Transport’s (OHT’s) vessel Albatross arrived at the Port of Nigg on 6 June with the second load of Moray East jacket foundations, after more than 40 days of sailing to transport the six jackets from the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, OHT Hawk is en route to Scotland, carrying the next batch of foundations for the 950 MW offshore wind farm.
OHT Osprey , which brought the first eight foundations from UAE at the beginning of May, is currently sailing back to collect the next load.
The vessels are picking up the jacket foundations at the Hamriyah Port in Sharjah, where Lamprell has been manufacturing 45 wind turbine and three substation substructures at two of its yards.
The remaining 55 foundations for the 100-turbine project will be delivered by Smulders.
DEME Group is the EPCI contractor for the Moray East turbine foundations and three offshore substation foundations, and is in charge of the transport and installation of the OSS topsides.
In September 2019, the company awarded OHT with a contract to transport 48 jacket foundations for the Moray East offshore wind farm from the United Arab Emirates to Scotland.
The same year, DEME Offshore selected Global Energy Group to provide its Port of Nigg facility as a staging site for the Moray East foundation installation.
Located 22 kilometres from the coast in the Outer Moray Firth zone, the 950 MW Moray East offshore wind farm will comprise 100 MHI Vestas 9.5 MW turbines expected to be fully operational in 2022.
