PGNiG gets first LNG load at Klaipeda

Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) has received the first supply of liquefied natural gas delivered by sea at the LNG reloading station located in the seaport of Klaipėda, Lithuania.

PGNiG gets first LNG load at Klaipeda onboard Kairos

Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) has received the first supply of liquefied natural gas delivered by sea at the LNG reloading station located in the seaport of Klaipėda, Lithuania.

Since the beginning of April, when PGNiG became the sole user of the station, as many as over 50 LNG road tankers carrying a total volume of almost 1000 tonnes of LNG have been dispatched from the station, PGNiG said in its statement.

On June 11, 2020, PGNiG received an LNG cargo at the Klaipėda reloading station. Finland’s Gasum delivered about 1,500 tonnes of LNG that originated in Norway. The liquefied gas has been loaded into onshore storage tanks. From there, it may be transported by LNG road tankers from Klaipėda to consumers in the Baltic States and north-eastern Poland.

“The small scale LNG market in the region shows positive signs of potential growth as new LNG facilities are planned and launched in the Baltic countries and network of LNG filling stations for heavy-duty vehicles are foreseen to be subsidized in Lithuania”, said Darius Šilenskis , CEO of Klaipėdos Nafta.

The LNG reloading station in Klaipėda features five storage tanks with a total capacity of 2,250 tonnes of liquefied natural gas. It has two loading bays for LNG trucks and ISO containers, which can be used simultaneously. The wharf of the station makes it possible not only to receive LNG from vessels but also to load LNG from the terminal.

PGNiG has been the user of the Klaipėda station since the beginning of April 2020. The facility belongs to Klaipėdos Nafta, and in November 2019 the Polish company won the tender for five-year use of 100 per cent of its technical capabilities.

To date, PGNiG has already sold over 50 cargoes from the station, making up a total of almost 1000 tonnes of LNG.
