The Dutch government has selected a consortium led by Tractebel to perform the wind resource assessment (WRA) for the Hollandse Kust (West) offshore wind farm zone.

The consortium which includes the Von Karman Institute (VKI) and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) will perform the assignment on behalf of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).

With the expertise of the VKI, the appropriate mesoscale model will be selected, whilst the KU Leuven will challenge the current best practice approach with a new wake model, which includes blockage effect and wind farm induced gravity waves, Tractebel said.

So far, a preliminary assessment has been performed and the results will be included in the Project and Site Description.

The final results of the WRA will be presented during a webinar, enabling prospective developers to minimize risk in their bid preparation for the project.

The call for tender for Hollandse Kust (West) is expected in the second quarter of 2021.

The wind farm zone is located 51km off the west coast of the Netherlands and comprises two 760 MW lots covering approximately 349km2.
