Following a recent one-well contract award, Maersk Drilling has now also secured a one-well contract extension for the Maersk Viking drillship with Shell in Brunei.

The initial contract was awarded earlier in November . The firm contract value was about $9 million, including additional services provided and a mobilisation fee.

The contract also included an additional one-well option.

In an update on Monday Maersk Drilling said that Brunei Shell Petroleum Company (BSP) has exercised the option to add exploration drilling of one deepwater well to the work scope of the 7th generation drillship Maersk Viking.

The contract extension has an estimated duration of 35 days, with work expected to start in May 2021 in direct continuation of the rig’s previously agreed work scope.

The contract value of the extension is approximately $7.1 million, including additional services provided.

Maersk Viking is a high-spec ultra-deepwater drillship which was delivered in 2013.

It is currently preparing for the drilling campaign for BSP, which is expected to start in March 2021, after having been warm-stacked in Johor, Malaysia.

Earlier this year, the drillship completed a drilling campaign in the Bay of Bengal.
