MOL recycles its oldest LNG carrier

Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has bid farewell to its first and oldest liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, Senshu Maru.

The vessel built by Mitsui Ichihara in 1984 for the J3 Consortium, including NYK Line, MOL and K Line.

The Moss-type LNG tanker was capable of transporting up to 125,835 cubic meters of the chilled fuel.

Through its social media channels, MOL said Senshu Maru has served for 37 years, sailing nearly two million nautical miles during the period.

The vessel completed a total of 733 voyages and carrying 9 million tons of LNG, under MOL operation.

Its final voyage was to India for green recycling.
