Oil and gas company Masirah Oil has spudded the Zakhera 1 well, located offshore Oman, using the Shelf Drilling-owned Tenacious jack-up rig.

The Tenacious rig has recently been moved from the Yumna field , located in block 50 off Oman, where it had completed two new additional production wells, Yumna 2 and Yumna 3.

First oil from Yumna 1 was achieved in February 2020.

The Yumna 2 well was spudded on 10 December 2020 and production started on 23 January 2021.

The Yumna 3 well was spudded on 20 January 2021 and production started on 18 February 2021.

The Zakhera prospect is located about 12 km to the south of the Yumna field.

Masirah Oil announced the spudding of the Zakhera 1 well on Tuesday 23 February 2021.

Masirah Oil holds a 100 per cent interest in the Block 50 Oman concession. Rex International holds an effective interest of 86.37 per cent in Masirah Oil.

Dan Broström , Executive Chairman of Rex, said, “The location of the Zakhera exploration well has been selected after much careful consideration.

“A discovery in this exploration well will enable us to put together further development plans and potentially convert more prospective resources near the Yumna Field into additional reserves, and possibly increase oil production from Block 50 Oman”.
