Dorian LPG takes over newbuild dual-fuel LPG and ammonia gas carrier

Imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) into Japan rose during the month of February 2021.

Provisional data released by Japan’s Ministry of Finance shows that Japan imported a total 8.07 million tons of LNG during the month under review.

This is a 21.5 per cent jump compared to volumes imported in the corresponding month last year.

Compared to the previous month , LNG imports remained flat.

The value of February LNG imports reached $3.74 billion, 15.9 per cent up from the value of LNG imported in the month prior.

Deliveries from Asian sources such as Malaysia and Indonesia edged up 17.6 per cent, to 1.95 million tons. At the same time, imports of LNG from the Middle Eastern sources slipped 8.7 per cent to 1.2 million tons.

Data shows that Japan’s imports of Russian LNG jumped up 20.2 per cent to 718,000 tons while imports of U.S. LNG shot up 100.6 per cent to 948,000 tons.

Imports of coal for power generation jumped 7.3 per cent to 9.81 million tons in February 2021.
