Energy training services & technology solutions provider 3t Energy Group has installed a next-generation simulator at CNOOC’s Well Control Centre (CWCC) to increase training capabilities in China.
3t Energy said on Tuesday that the installation was conducted by its Chinese arm 3t-China and that the CWCC invested $1.5 million in new simulator technology to support the oil and gas industry across the region.
CWCC developed new classrooms and installed several MultiSIMs, DrillSIM 5s, and DrillSIM Educators at its training centre in Tianjin, delivered by 3t-China and simulator developer Drilling Systems – another company owned by 3t Energy Group.
The new facilities complement CWCC’s existing centre, which currently teaches more than 2,400 students annually, and will be used to train and assess oil and gas personnel in all elements of well control and drilling to internationally approved IADC and IWCF standards.
3t Energy Group won the contract with CWCC last year and worked closely with the company to design and develop the simulator technology which was installed this week.
The MultiSIM system allows training in multiple well intervention operations including coiled tubing, wireline, and snubbing operations, while the DrillSIM 5 and Educator systems are specifically designed as a teaching tool for multiple person class sizes.
CWCC’s Yingwei Liu said: “ We are fully committed to ensuring the oil and gas industry across China has a highly-skilled, competent, and safe workforce trained to international standards and using cutting-edge technologies.
“ This significant investment in new simulator technology significantly strengthens our training capabilities and will enable us to train additional students and add more courses and qualifications to our portfolio ”.

This technology allows students to experience all the movement, sounds and operations of a real offshore rig so that they can practise everyday operations and specific emergency scenarios in a risk-free setting.

This contract, together with others, increases our strength and presence in China where we have established a new permanent office ”.
This year, 3t Energy has won several training deals. Namely, the company’s strategic alliance with Enermech – 3t Enermech – recently inked a contract to train Mozambique’s growing oil and gas workforce. Also, 3t Energy secured a deal with Chrysaor to manage the training of its entire UK workforce.
Apart from those deals, the company purchased Petrofac’s UK training centres in February 2021.
