Westcon to work with TechnipFMC on Norwegian oil field

TechnipFMC has awarded Westcon Yards Subsea with a contract to deliver 13 structures and six PLRs for the Breidablikk oil field in Norway.

Set to be delivered in February and April 2022, the structures will connect the pipe system which TechnipFMC will install on the ocean floor at the Breidablikk field.

Besides the structural work, the contract includes welding qualification, installations, welding, and testing of valves and pipe systems.

According to Westcon, the company’s subsea fabrication department is currently working towards upgrading its facilities in Florø specifically for this kind of fabrication work.

“Through different projects over the past seven years we have developed a clear understanding of what it means to really deliver in demanding projects that have strict quality requirements,” site manager at Subsea Florø, Ole Anders Smørdal , said.

“This is the most comprehensive contract when it comes to amount of structures and complexity in Westcon Subsea’s history. This also means that we can further develop our knowledge and expertise in the technical department within this subject area. We now have the opportunity to phase in and acquire new resources for this kind of competence at the yard.”

To remind, TechnipFMC secured an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract for pipelay and subsea installation at the Breidablikk field in October last year.

The Norwegian authorities just recently approved the development and operation (PDO) plan for the field, which Equinor and its partners Petoro, Vår Energi, and ConocoPhillips Skandinavia submitted in September 2020.
