PJ Valves (PJV), a UK-based manufacturer and supplier of valves to the global energy industry, has won two floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) valve contracts worth $11 million for projects in Brazil. One of these is for the Búzios field, which is the world’s largest deepwater oil field.
The company reported on Tuesday that it was awarded two FPSO valve contracts and that one of the FPSOs involved would be one of the largest oil-producing units in the world. Both of these FPSOs will be working for the Brazilian oil and gas giant Petrobras.
Under the terms of these contracts, won through competitive tenders, PJ Valves will manufacture and supply valve packages to both projects in the Santos and Campos basins. The valves will be low to high pressure, covering multiple topside applications from water services to oil and gas.
James Moir , Group Sales Director at PJ Valves, commented on the new contracts : “Brazil lends itself as the perfect location for FPSO projects due to its water depths, and with the resurgence of the oil price we’ve seen it thrive! Over the past five years, we’ve supplied and manufactured valves to over 25 FPSOs.”
PJ Valves states that the first contract is for the FPSO destined for the Buzios field, which is set to be the largest oil-producing unit operating offshore Brazil and one of the largest in the world, with a daily processing capacity of 225,000b of oil and 12Mm3 of gas.
In addition, it will have a water injection capacity of 250,000b/d and a minimum storage capacity of 1.4Mb of crude oil. The low to high-pressure valves will be installed within the vessel’s topsides from next year ahead of the planned delivery of the FPSO in the second half of 2024.
On the other hand, the second contract outlines that the firm will deliver a range of shutdown, ball, globe and check valves supplied in carbon stainless-steel, super duplex and nickel aluminium bronze material for the Mero 3 FPSO. According to the company, the valves will vary in size, with the maximum being 14 inches in diameter and pressure class being 10,000 psi, to support the topside processing requirements of the vessel.
“On the Mero 3 FPSO there isn’t a place you can go where you won’t be near one of our valves and that’s a fantastic thing to say,” added Moir.
The Mero 3 FPSO project is expected to have a processing capacity of 180,000 b/d of oil and 12 MMcm/d of gas, with production planned for 2024. This is not the first time, PJ Valves won contracts for FPSOs destined to be working for Petrobras in Brazil. Last year in October, the company was also awarded two FPSO valve contracts in Brazil.
In related news, Dutch floater provider SBM Offshore signed contracts with Petrobras in July this year for the 26.25 years lease and operation of FPSO Almirante Tamandaré , the largest oil production unit to operate offshore Brazil. The unit will be deployed at the Búzios field.
Furthermore, in an update on Monday, Italian oilfield contractor Saipem announced a new contract with Petrobras, which entails the installation of a rigid riser-based subsea system for the Búzios 7 project to serve the pre-salt field located about 200 km offshore the state of Rio de Janeiro, in water depths of around 2,000 meters.
