Marine Power Systems (MPS) has announced a tender for a contractor to design and build a platform deployment system for its megawatt-scale wind and wave energy demonstrator.
The selected contractor will, in addition to designing and building the deployment system, be also tasked to deliver it to site and provide technical support during the site installation, commissioning and operation stages of the project.
The project, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh Government, will see MPS demonstrating a combined wind and wave energy device , dubbed DualSub, at the grid-connected Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) test site in northern Spain.
The deadline to apply to the pre-qualification stage of tendering process for this portion of work has been set for February 11, 2022, while the demonstration operations are expected to start in early 2023, according to MPS.
MPS has already awarded major contracts to deliver the megawatt-scale demonstrator project, including agreements with Principia , Black & Veatch , as well as other specialist companies in the sector.
Earlier in the week, MPS announced another related tender – for a contractor that would undertake a micrositing survey to confirm the exact location of the platform at BiMEP.
To remind, MPS recently secured £3.5 million in grant fundin g from the UK Government to further develop its floating platform technology and wave energy converter.
