Peterson brings its carbon neutral aspirations closer to reality

Energy logistics provider Peterson has made progress in advancing its aim of reaching a carbon neutral status by the end of 2022.

Peterson reported on Tuesday that it had completed the verification of five further sites – located in Scotland and the Middle East – as carbon neutral under the PAS 2060 certification received from National Quality Assurance (NQA). The sites include Torry Marine Base , Altens , Kintore , Dales and Qatar operations.

Keith Dawson , HSEQ Director at Peterson, remarked: “We are pleased to certify a further five sites which brings us closer to achieving our ambition of reaching carbon neutral status across all 27 sites by the end of the year.”

The company revealed its sustainability goal in October 2021, however, the Edzell facility was the first site to be certified as carbon neutral earlier in 2021. Peterson says that plans are underway to achieve the same status for the remaining 21 sites, enabling the firm to achieve carbon-neutral status globally.

In a bid to achieve this goal, Peterson is employing initiatives such as the use of increased electric forklift trucks replacing existing diesel trucks, the use of environmentally friendly fuels in cranes and trucks and the purchase of new electric vans with zero tail pipe emissions. In addition, the company uses advanced technologies to achieve optimal planning into the supply chain to minimise the movement of goods across locations.

The energy logistics provider further stated that a new staff initiative was also introduced recently by joining the Pawprint pioneer programme – an online tool and app – as part of Peterson’s net-zero framework. This initiative allows users to measure, understand and reduce their carbon footprint.

When it comes to recent projects, it is worth reminding that Peterson was awarded a logistics contract in January 2022 by Petrofac to support the offshore installation phase of two 700MW transformation platforms for TenneT’s Hollandse Kust (zuid) offshore grid, connecting the offshore wind farm area with the same name to the Dutch onshore high-voltage grid.
