Polish oil and gas player PGNiG wants to book regasification capacity at GAZ-SYSTEM’s floating storage and r egasification unit (FSRU) terminal at the Port of Gdansk.
On March 30, the company placed an order for regasification services as part of the first phase of the FSRU open season.
Gaz-System, the operator of the Polish LNG import facility in Świnoujście, carried out the open season procedure. Its goal was to verify the interest of market participants in the regasification capacity of the planned FSRU.
PGNiG says it will have LNG volumes at its disposal to guarantee Poland’s energy security. American contracts alone account for approximately 9 billion cubic meters, said Paweł Majewski , president of PGNiG. However, it is important not only to obtain LNG but also to have appropriate infrastructural capabilities allowing for its import, he added.
He also shared the company’s ambitions to increase its share in the international gas market; specifically in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. Therefore, PGNiG decides to reserve additional regasification capacity.
Moreover, Majewski said they do not hide that they treat the planned Gdańsk FSRU unit as a priority.
The FSRU terminal will be capable of unloading, storing, and regasifying LNG. Its initial capacity will be up to 6.1 billion cubic metres of LNG per year. The unit will be based in the Bay of Gdansk.
