Wärtsilä to maintain two MMS-operated LNG carriers

The Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has signed an optimised maintenance agreement for two LNG carriers operated by the Japanese shipping group MMS.

The parties signed the agreements (OMAs) back in February 2022. Wärtsilä says they are to deliver maximised engine uptime and cost predictability, optimising maintenance for the lowest carbon footprint.

MMS technically manages and operates the two LNG carrier vessels. They operate with 50DF dual-fueled engines.

The OMAs also include Wärtsilä’s digital predictive maintenance solution, Expert Insight. Using artificial intelligence and diagnostics, the service enables onboard equipment and systems to be monitored in real-time.

In addition to Expert Insight, under the terms of the deals, Wartsila will also provide all spare parts, dynamic maintenance planning, remote operational support, field services, and workshop services.

Wärtsilä says the optimised maintenance agreements are an integral element within its lifecycle support approach. As the global market for LNG has grown rapidly, customers have increasingly seen the value of remote support and long-term cooperation on maintenance.

The tech goup has OMAs covering more than 260 LNG carriers.
