Dolphin Drilling’s Blackford Dolphin semi-submersible rig has arrived in Las Palmas, Spain, where it is expected to undergo a short recertification and maintenance work prior to embarking on its new assignment in Nigeria.

A few weeks ago, Dolphin Drilling disclosed that the Blackford Dolphin rig was on tow from Mexico to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria.

The rig was expected to arrive at its destination in mid-November to complete a short recertification and maintenance work scope, before setting sail for Nigeria, where the rig secured a 12-month contract with General Hydrocarbons Limited (GHL) in early October, following a letter of award in September 2022.

This deal is worth around $96 million and operations are scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of this year. The rig has now docked at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The 1974-built Blackford Dolphin is a semi-submersible drilling rig of an Enhanced Aker H-3 design. This rig recently completed an $83 million contract for Pemex in the Gulf of Mexico, which started in December 2020.
