Shelf Drilling to keep jack-up rigs busy in 2023

UAE-based Shelf Drilling has secured three-year contracts for two of its jack-up rigs for work offshore India, as well as a one-year contract for a rig to operate off the coast of Nigeria.

Shelf Drilling reported that Compact Driller and Key Singapore had been appointed for operations in Mumbai High for India’s government-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

The planned start-up of operations for both contracts is in the second quarter of 2023.

The offshore drilling contractor also secured work for the Trident VIII jack-up rig for operations offshore Nigeria, with an undisclosed client.

The rig will complete a short out-of-service project prior to the expected contract commencement in the second quarter of 2023.

In May, Shelf Drilling received an award for a three-year contract for the F.G. McClintock jack-up rig with ONGC, also for operations in Mumbai High.

The company’s C.E. Thornton jack-up rig is also currently working for the Indian company in the same area. Namely, the two companies signed a three-year contract for the rig in July.

Over the past few months, the UAE company has won a number of new deals and extended existing ones for its rig fleet. Most recently, the Shelf Drilling Resourceful and the Key Manhattan jack-up rigs won long-term deals with Italy’s energy giant Eni for operations in the Adriatic Sea off Italy.

Shelf Drilling also secured a contract extension for work in Angola in late November, which follows a five-year deal for operations in the Arabian Gulf.
